LAKE OCONEE — Halcyon Hospice is looking for volunteers to provide companionship and socialization to terminally ill patients and their caregivers. STMA and The Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton present “Mothers and Children: Beyond Sentiment.” This show features a collection of paintings depicting the theme of mother and child. The show is located at The Plaza Arts Center, 305 N. Madison Ave., Eatonton.

Reynolds Plantation has opened their seasonal ice skating rink. Access to the rink is complimentary for resort guests, $40 per four-hour session for adults, $30 per four-hour session per child (12 and under). The prince includes a skate rental.

The Broughton Artists’ Market will be held at 125 W. Jefferson St. in Madison.. Discover locally-made arts and crafts. The market is open Thursday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be a Grand Opening Soiree on Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.

The Potted Geranium Tea Parlor will host Christmas Tea from 3 to 5 p.m. There will be a holiday menu that includes miniature pastries, finger sandwiches and currant scones. The Downtown Tree Lighting celebration in Greensboro will take place from 5-7 p.m. on the evening of Friday, Nov. 30.  Mark your calendars. Santa will be available for children to visit, there will be an old-fashioned hayride through town and your favorite holiday tunes will be sung around the tree. Come early and enjoy “Soups & Sammies” by Washington Grass Inn while local choirs and choral groups perform throughout the evening.

STMA, 4200 Bethany Road, Buckhead, will host a Holiday Collection Christmas Bazaar each day from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Bazaar will offer a variety of baked Christmas goodies, as well as unusual and inexpensive gifts, including some hand-made treasures by local artists. December 18 -- (9 a.m. - 2 p.m.) Distribution at Senior Center (seniors gifts only).

December 18 – (5 p.m. to 6 p.m.) Loading at the County Annex building.

December 19 -- (10 a.m. - 1 p.m.) Distribution of Toys and clothes for children at Greene County High School.

The Madison Artists Guild hosts their first “MAG Holiday Market” at the Cottage in Town Park, 248 W Jefferson St., Madison. There will be unique gifts, artwork and seasonal stocking stuffers. The market will be open: Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Lake Oconee Elks Lodge #2849 will be hold their annual Charity Christmas Turkey shoot at the old Lake Oconee Shooting Club at 631 Sparta Highway. There will be safety instruction for new and young shooters who can also compete in the events. Guns and ammunition will be provided or you may bring your own. All proceeds to benefit the Elks Lodge Charity fund providing aid to the needy, scholarships and a full array of philanthropic endeavors. Festivities will begin at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day. There is a shooting fee of $5.00, but children seven through 17 shoot and eat free. There will be refreshments, snack bar and a number of prizes. So come on out for some fun and friendship and win a Christmas turkey or ham for the family. The Pray, Hope and Believe Cancer Support Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Putnam General Hospital classroom, 101 Lake Oconee Parkway, Eatonton. The city of Union Point will host a Christmas Parade in conjunction with the Greene County Chamber of Commerce and Greene County Family Connection.
