Back by popular demand, it’s John Berry. The Chamber is proud to once again host John Berry’s Christmas concert in downtown Greensboro. This year the Christmas with John Berry concert will be presented on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 4:30 p.m. at Festival Hall. The search is on for the perfect tree to help Downtown Greensboro celebrate the holidays. City leaders and downtown business owners are looking for a tree that will serve as the town tree this holiday season.

Greensboro’s tree is typically a fresh cut evergreen. Past trees have ranged from 20 to 30 feet in height.  The selected tree will stand on the Court House Lawn in historic Greensboro throughout the holiday season. Organizers hope to have the tree in place by mid November. To suggest or offer a tree, please contact the Greensboro Better Hometown Office at (706) 453-7674.

Local groups and organizations are invited to participate in the Tree Lighting program. Choirs are needed to provide special music throughout the evening and local non-profits are invited to get involved by providing special holiday goodies. In order to meet the deadlines below, the Greene County Christmas Stocking Fund needs to start planning now. They had a great team of volunteers last year and hope more members of the community will be able to work to support this cause again this year.

December 11 -- Initial toy sorting and counting.

December 14 -- Pack toys.

December 18 -- (9 a.m. - 2 p.m.) Distribution at Senior Center (seniors gifts only).

December 18 – (5 p.m. to 6 p.m.) Loading at the County Annex building.

December 19 -- (10 a.m. - 1 p.m.) Distribution of Toys and clothes for children at Greene County High School.

STMA and The Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton present “Mothers and Children: Beyond Sentiment.” This show features a collection of paintings depicting the theme of mother and child. The show is located at The Plaza Arts Center, 305 N. Madison Ave., Eatonton.

STMA will present “Steffen Thomas Prints and Printmaking.” The exhibit contains Steffen Thomas’ hand pulled prints, printmaking plates and tools.

The Plaza Arts Center will present “Always… Patsy Cline” by Ted Swindley. The show is directed by Dottie McClain and Sarah Daly Weir will be assistant director. The LifeSource Food Distribution Program sponsored by the Knights of Columbus will be at the Putnam County Elementary School Gym at 10 a.m. Any disabled resident who has already registered and would like to designate someone to get his or her food distribution must give that person signed authorization to do so. Putnam General Hospital will provide glucose testing. DFCS representatives will provide assistance applications and answer questions. ORHS representatives will provide food and signups for spaying/neutering services. FERST Foundation for Childhood Literacy will provide free books/signups.

The second annual Festival of Trees to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Greene County will be held at 201 N. Main Street, Greensboro from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be decorated trees and wreaths created by local designers and sponsored by businesses and organizations. There will be small tabletop trees to accommodate office and home. Santa’s Secret Shop will be there for children and youth. There will also be a holiday bazaar with unique items. Local bands and youth and adult choirs will provide entertainment. Adult tickets cost $5; youth tickets (8-18) cost $3 and children seven and under are free. Tickets can be purchased from Festival Hall, The Greene County Chamber of Commerce, The Greene County Boys & Girls Club, Cheveux Hair Salon, Christine’s Jewelers at Harmony Crossing, Daily Nails (by Publix) and Genuine Georgia in downtown Greensboro.

Eatonton Elks Lodge #2549 will host a Family Turkey Shoot starting at 9 a.m. There will be hotdogs to buy. Winners will receive a turkey or ham. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Nov. 21

The Village at Harmony Crossing in Eatonton will host a kick off for the holiday season with "Village of Lights Festival." There will be holiday themed snacks, music and entertainment and a hayride. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. and will run until 9 p.m.

Nov. 27

Eatonton Elks Lodge #2549 will be serving country-fried steak with all the trimmings for their Country Cook'n. Dinner will begin at 7 p.m. Adult plates cost $10 and plates for children 12 and under cost $6. The public is invited and the event is smoke free.

Nov. 30

The Downtown Tree Lighting celebration in Greensboro will take place from 5-7 p.m. on the evening of Friday, Nov. 30.  Mark your calendars. Santa will be available for children to visit, there will be an old-fashioned hayride through town and your favorite holiday tunes will be sung around the tree. Come early and enjoy “Soups & Sammies” by Washington Grass Inn while local choirs and choral groups perform throughout the evening.

STMA will host a Holiday Collection Christmas Bazaar each day from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Bazaar will offer a variety of baked Christmas goodies, as well as unusual and inexpensive gifts, including some hand-made treasures by local artists.
