Beat summer heat by focusing on houseplants

LAKE OCONEE — Staying inside to beat the summer heat should not keep you from enjoying the beauty of plants. Many beautiful houseplants are available to bring pleasure to indoor environments at home, the office or to your business. Some varieties prefer sunny areas, others like shade; some have blooms, interesting leaf color or different growth habits to set them apart. You can use houseplants to soften corners, fill bare areas, or add color to plain areas. These are just a few of the many ways plants can be used to add interest to interiors. To add color try blooming plants such as Peace Lily, Orchids, Bromeliads, and Bird of Paradise. Another option for adding color is to use plants with interesting leaf colors such as Croton, Chinese Evergreen, Dieffenbachia, different varieties of Dracaena, Pothos, variegated Ficus Tree, variegated Arboricola, Mother-In-Law Tongue or Rubber Plant. For areas that require taller-growing plants, consider Ficus Tree, Schefflera, Dracaena, several varieties of Palms, Fiddle Leaf Fig or Rubber Plant.
