Summertime is great time to enjoy flowering plants

LAKE OCONEE — Summertime is a great time for enjoying flowering plants. There are many types of blooming plants in the garden center from which to choose. Many trees and shrubs are available that bloom during this time of year.

One of the most popular blooming trees is Crape Myrtle, which has large clusters of flowers and a long blooming period. They are available in several shades of red, pink, lavender, purple and white. Crape Myrtles work well in most landscapes.

Many Magnolia varieties are blooming now. They have beautiful, large, white blooms that look great against their glossy, dark-green leaves. You can use them in different areas of your yard because they are available in both tall and lower growing varieties.

Vitex is another great tree for summertime color. It is a smaller tree with spike-like white blooms and has blue flowers. They are great for areas where a smaller tree is desired.

There are several great shrubs, which are blooming now, such as Butterfly Bush. They bloom for a long period and their flowers are very showy. With bloom colors available in white, pink, shades of blue or purple, their presence in a landscape will definitely draw attention from humans and butterflies alike.

These are just a few of the great summer blooming plants that are available now. Check with your garden center professional to see which of these great plants will enhance your landscape.
