Blooming plants can bring color to your landscape

LAKE OCONEE — If you want color in your landscape, consider using repeat and continuous blooming plants. These plants can give a great look throughout the seasons. Place these plants in strategic areas in your yard such as near the lake, patio, pool, entryway, natural areas, driveway and sidewalks. There are many of these type plants to choose from. Here is a partial listing of blooming shrubs. Butterfly Bush comes in white, various shades of blue and purple. Knockout Rose is available with red or pink blooms; they have been known to bloom up until Christmas. Encore Azaleas are available in pink, white, red and lavender. Endless Summer Hydrangea blooms pink or blue depending on the acidity of the soil.

Perennials are another good choice for repeat blooms. Stella DeOro Day Lily, Coreopsis, Lantana, Daisies, Homestead Verbena, Ice Plant, Veronica and perennial Salvia are all good choices for perennial blooms.

The best re-bloomers are annuals since most of them will bloom until frost. Spring annuals will be available at the garden center soon. There are many different varieties and colors to choose from, some do well in shade and some in sun. Examples of annuals include Begonias, Impatience, annual Lantana, annual Verbena, Vinca, Geraniums, Marigolds, Coleus, Petunia and Ageratum. If you need seasonal color now, Pansies, Violas, Snapdragons, Ornamental Kale, English Daisies and Primrose are currently available.
