Habitat breaks ground

GREENSBORO — On Sunday, March 7, 2010, husband and wife, Robert and Brittany Poole, and their sons, Robert Jr. and Ronald, started a new chapter in their lives which includes dreams, hopes and answered prayers.  At 4 p.m. on Sunday, more than 50 people gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Poole’s new home in Greene County Habitat’s New Horizons of Ludwig Place subdivision in Greensboro. The ceremony started with opening remarks from Elaine Mathews, Executive Director, and a welcome from Theresa Kemp, Board of Directors Chairman, of Greene County Habitat for Humanity.  A call to worship, scripture reading, and a prayer blessing for the Pooles’ new home and beginning was celebrated by all.

Three years ago Robert Poole and his family had a star shining over them.  That star was Jane Mayo.  Robert and his family lived in Milledgeville and Robert had lost his job and his family had no place to live.  Robert met his star, Jane Mayo, who held out her hand and heart and gave Robert a job at Quail International in Greensboro.  This was the start of the Pooles’ new journey in their lives, which will be a growth of new hope for them and their two sons, Robert, Jr. age 11, and Ronald, age 9.  Robert and Brittany are very grateful that they were blessed with that shining star named Jane, who reached out and gave them a chance at a new life and new beginning.

When Robert and Brittany found out they had been accepted as future Habitat homeowners they were ecstatic and in disbelief that their prayers had been answered. They remain grateful.  Their journey from the time of their acceptance of becoming future new homeowners until this day of the groundbreaking has been a positive, exhilarating process for the entire Poole family.  When asked what were the boys’ reaction when they found out they were getting a new home to live in, their first response was that of excitement because they were able to pick out their own colors for their bedrooms.  When Robert and Brittany were asked what was the first thing they were going to do when they move into their new home, Brittany said they were going to celebrate and have a barbeque in their new back yard for all their friends.  Robert and Brittany and their children are grateful for everyone involved at Greene County Habitat who made their dream come true.
