Hay Days scarecrows set to return to Greensboro

They took Greensboro by storm last fall. Quirky scarecrows popped up all over town. The Curves scarecrow was ready for a work-out. The judges at Oxford Law Firm and the Greene County Court House kept order. A postman scarecrow delivered Hay Days mail. And the scarecrow at Rene and Co. patiently waited for her perm to set.

Rumor has it that the Hay Days scarecrows are coming back! Scarecrows are scheduled to begin appearing around Greensboro on Nov. 1 and hang around until Nov. 15. This year, the scarecrows will attempt to continue their march from downtown all the way to Interstate 20.

Businesses, community organizations, school groups, families and neighbors are all encouraged to build a scarecrow for Hay Days. Hay Days is a fun way to build community spirit and promote downtown Greensboro this fall season.

No registration is required for Hay Days; just build a scarecrow and let your creative juices flow.

If you’ve got a scarecrow that would like to visit Greensboro for this year’s Hay Days, please see that he arrives around Nov. 1 and departs by Nov. 15. If there is a scarecrow that wants to visit but has no place to call home, let the Hay Days organizers know, and we will help to find him a location.

Midway through the Scarecrows’ visit to Greensboro, downtown Greensboro will host a Build-a-Scarecrow Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8. This fun, fall celebration will offer “build-a-scarecrow kits,” live music and food. Families are invited downtown to build their own scarecrow with the assistance of volunteers.

Community groups or organizations that would like to participate as a vendor at Build-a-Scarecrow Day should contact the Hay Days organizers.

Hay Days is supported by the Greensboro Business Association and Greensboro Better Hometown. The project is chaired by volunteer Gloria Slaughter of the Washington Grass Inn. For questions or additional information, or to volunteer to help, contact Better Hometown manager, Cail Hammons at (706) 453-7592 or call Gloria Slaughter at (706) 467-2520.
