Downtown Greensboro will be ground zero for a hauntingly good time Friday as residents and merchants turn out for Downtown Trick or Treat.

The third annual Downtown Trick or Treat will take place between 5 and 7 p.m. this Friday on Halloween. About 30 downtown merchants will be helping to create a spooky setting for handing out Halloween goodies on all hallow’s eve.

“A lot of merchants dress up and decorate their stores for Halloween and Harvest Fest,” Greensboro Better Hometown Program Manager Cail Newsome Hammons said. “It is going to be fun for everyone.”

Last year’s Downtown Trick or Treat drew more than 500 trick or treaters to historic downtown Greensboro, Hammons said.

Hammons hopes to see at least that many participants this year.

“Merchants are really looking forward to welcoming families downtown,” she said.

Treaters should begin their evening with a visit to the Greene County Chamber of Commerce. They’ll be given a free trick or treat bag and a list of participating businesses. From there, children can head out to any participating merchant for a treat and maybe a scare — as many merchants will be wearing costumes of their own.

Downtown Trick or Treat is for children ages 12 and under. Parents are asked to escort their children to ensure a safe and fun time for all! While in town Moms and Dads should be sure to check out the unique shopping that downtown Greensboro has to offer.
