Now that the Christmas season is here, it is time for gift buying. Many people are going to fight the mall and shopping center traffic and wait in long checkout lines. Think about purchasing plants as a gift.

Plant materials are a gift that keeps on giving. Most people enjoy plants because they give a comfortable feeling to their home. House plants are a great way to create that feeling. There are house plants available for low light areas and sunny areas. There are low growing, medium growing and tall growing house plants which means there are plants available for just about any situation and area of the home. House plants are also available with flowers, colored leaves, green leaves, hanging baskets or pre-planted color bowls.

Another good choice is to plant a tree. This is the time of year for tree planting and there are many varieties of trees to choose from. Trees available now are; flowering trees, Japanese Maples, shade trees, accent trees, weeping trees and trees with colorful and interesting bark. Trees also come in low growing to tall varieties. There are trees available to fit almost any area of a landscape.

Shrubs would be another great gift with so many to choose from. Shrub varieties come with flowers, different leaf colors, textures and growth habits. A great gift idea would be to plant an area of someone’s landscape that needs to be re-done. It’s a gift that will be remembered for a long time. Another great gift would be a gift certificate which would allow a person to choose a plant or plants that they would particularly enjoy.

Merry Christmas!
