Greensboro was one of ninety-two cities across the state that was honored by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for its commitment to downtown revitalization and historic preservation in Georgia.
Greensboro was among this select group and again achieved National Main Street Accreditation from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The national accreditation designation process evaluates established commercial district revitalization programs according to ten basic performance standards.
In 2008, Georgia’s Main Street and Better Hometown cities reported $263 million in total public/private investment in downtown with a net of 580 businesses created and a net total of 3,018 jobs created.
“It is always a pleasure to honor our Georgia Main Street and Better Hometown cities. It is because of their tireless efforts that heritage tourism in Georgia continues to thrive,” said Billy Parrish, Director of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs’ Office of Downtown Development.
“Greensboro is fortunate to have a community of volunteers, business people, and leaders who are committed to downtown’s success,” says Better Hometown Manager, Cail Hammons. “It is because of the work of these individuals that Greensboro is able to enjoy this important designation as a Georgia Better Hometown for the twelfth consecutive year.”
