Living Well with Diabetes

Diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Twenty-four million Americans have diabetes and one-fourth of these people do not know they have it. One in five people are at risk for Type 2 diabetes. For many, diagnosis comes seven to ten years after the onset of the disease. However, early detection and treatment of diabetes can prevent or delay many of the complications associated with the disease.
As a part of their health education services, TenderCare Clinic in Greensboro offers a complimentary monthly program, “Living Well with Diabetes.” The program is led by TenderCare Diabetic Nurse Educator and RN Judy Carman, and meets the first Tuesday of every month at 4:30 p.m. in the Education Room at TenderCare. The program offers healthcare tips and solutions for diabetic patients and their caregivers.
Judy states, “Diabetes treatment is improving every day. I encourage family members of diabetic patients to attend the “Living Well with Diabetes” program. Understanding diabetes and how it is treated makes it easier to help your loved one.”
Judy also works one-on-one with diabetic patients at the TenderCare Clinic to help improve their quality of life through lifestyle changes including meal plans, exercise, monitoring blood sugar levels and self management training. Judy can also assist diabetic patients with complimentary glucometers and test strips.
