The No. 1 ranked University of Georgia men’s golf team continued its winning streak by capturing a third Linger Longer Invitational title. The win marked the fourth victory in the last five meets for the Bulldogs. The 4th annual Linger Longer Invitational was held at Reynolds Landing on Lake Oconee from March 20-21.
The Bulldogs finished two strokes ahead of the No. 2 ranked Oklahoma State University Cowboys. They shot a final-round even-par 288 to post a winning total of 3 over 867. The Bulldogs and the Cowboys were tied heading into the final round.
“I am very proud of our team,” said Georgia coach Chris Haack. “I like the way we responded to the head-to-head competition with Oklahoma State. That should bode well for us as we go down the road.”
Oklahoma State University’s Trent Whitekiller took the individual title with scores of 74-68-66 for a winning total of 208 (-8).
“This year’s Linger Longer Invitational highlighted the competitive play demonstrated all season by the University of Georgia and Oklahoma State University,” said Scott Justman, head golf professional at Reynolds Landing. “We thank all of the teams who participated and the host universities.”
Hosted by Kennesaw State University and Mercer University, the Invitational featured 13 teams competing in a 54-hole individual and team stroke play format. Teams included University of Cincinnati, University of Connecticut, Eastern Michigan University, Francis Marion University, University of Georgia, Kennesaw State University, Mercer University, University of New Orleans, Oklahoma State University, Purdue University, Saint Johns University, Wichita State University and Winthrop University.
