Picnic & Movie Saturday at The Plaza

The Ward Chapel Historic Museum Committee is inviting all Eatonton residents and residents of the surrounding area to come out and support efforts to rebuild the Historic Ward Chapel AME Church Saturday, June 13 at The Plaza.

Bring your picnic blanket and meal and enjoy family and community time and a movie on the lawn at The Plaza. Enjoy song by Olivia Murphy of Putnam County Middle School and spoken word by Angela Allen, of Atlanta.

The movie, “The Color Purple” will be featured on a big screen on the lawn. Raffle tickets will be available for $1 each, the winner will receive two tickets to see the Broadway presentation of “The Color Purple,” starring Fantasia on Sept. 18 at the Historic Fox Theater in Atlanta. The activities will begin at 8 p.m. Donations are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Donations go toward the planned Ward Chapel Historical Museum at the former church of the Alice Walker family.

The museum will feature the life and accomplishments of Alice Walker and also preserve the African American history of the area, the AME church and the Ward family. The museum will also be available to the community for religious and educational purposes. Tickets are available at The Eatonton Chamber of Commerce office, located at The Plaza.
