BrainMinders Puppets, Pilots visit local schools

BrainMinders is the signature project for Pilot International focused on traumatic brain injury and brain disorders. The project encompasses a public service campaign designed to promote brain awareness; prevention education programs for children and adults; workshop and speakers bureau materials; a partnership with Project Lifesaver, a tracking program; and support for brain-related programs.

The award-winning BrainMinders programs feature safety tips for children and are presented by Pilot Clubs around the world.

The BrainMinder Buddies program structures injury prevention “Play Safe, Play Smart” through the story “Wise Old Owl and his Fuzzy, Funny, Smart and Sunny BrainMinder Buddies.”

Pilot Club of Greene County members visit with kindergarten students in all the schools in Greene County. Puppets emphasize keeping their brains safe by wearing a helmet, being careful on the playground, when crossing the street and riding in vehicles. The BrainMinder Buddies have visited Union Point Elementary and Nathaneal Greene Academy this school year and will schedule visits to the other schools school.

Did you know? Brain injury is the most frequent cause of death among young people. Annually, 30,000 children become permanently disabled, 150,000 are hospitalized and 7,000 deaths occur due to brain injury in the United States.
