Jones, Harris honored by Rotary

Putnam County High School’s Alexia Jones, daughter of Grady and Simone Jones, was recently honored as Rotary Student and Teacher of the Month. Jones’ academic and extracurricular accomplishments include being named GPBTV Prep Sports Plus Academic Athlete of the week, being named National Scholar, receiving the National Merit Award and the Governors Honors award and being named to the AP/Honor Roll. Her leadership qualifications include being senior class president, varsity basketball captain and Y-Club president (2006-2007). Her community service includes being a poll worker, participating in marketing the school to the community and visiting nursing homes. Upon graduation, she plans to attend a four-year university and major in criminal justice with a minor in theater.

Geraldine Harris was honored as Rotary Teacher of the Month. Harris attended Fort Valley University, Atlanta University and Nova Southeastern University and holds a bachelor of science in education, master’s in education and specialist degree in curriculum management and administration. She has taught 36 years of which 34 years has been at PCHS. She teaches math, science, language and social studies. Her community involvement includes serving as president of senior choir and serving as a Sunday school teacher.
