Lake Oconee

Lake Level – Most of the lake is clear but some areas remain stained.

Lake Temperature – The surface water temperature is 86-88 degrees.

Largemouth Bass – GOOD. Try fishing buzzbaits, Pop-Rs and Trick worms around shallow cover, seawalls and docks in the early morning. Mayflies are scattered but still hatching in some areas so fish those areas harder as the bream feed. Move deeper when the sun comes out and use a Carolina rigged soft plastic or a crankbait. Many of the fish have migrated back to deeper areas including points, humps, ledges and channels. Long points are good right now. Green pumpkin, redbug and watermelon colored worms and lizards fished on a Carolina rig and a crankbait (Norman Deep Little N, Poes 300/400, Norman DD-14, Rapala DT-16) are good lures for catching bass in those locations. Points near deep docks are good right now.

Crappie – FAIR. Best fishing now is fishing the deep brushpiles and around standing timber. The deep fish can be caught in those deep locations on minnows and jigs day and night. Look for most of the fish to be suspended at 10-16 feet regardless of the water depth.

Hybrid Bass/Striped/White Bass – FAIR. The surface feeding action can occur at anytime especially early and late in the day but few anglers are reporting schooling fish. Look for that surface action between the Highway 44 Bridge and Richland Creek. The surface feeding schools can be caught on popping cork rigs, Rooster Tails, crankbaits and spoons.

Catfish – GOOD. Fishing is good now on the ledges and along creek channels. Use live shad for blues and flatheads and cut bait (bream/shad heads) for channel catfish.
