More than 600 local students took part in Greene County’s Back to School BASH! in Downtown Greensboro. Students were met with loads of free school supplies and other treats donated by area businesses.
The event was made possible by sponsorship from TenderCare Clinic and St. Joseph’s East Georgia.
The morning kicked off with a color guard presentation by the Greene County High School R.O.T.C. program and the crowd paused while the National Anthem was played. Greensboro Mayor Glenn Wright welcomed everyone to historic downtown Greensboro and encouraged a fun-filled afternoon. Entertainment was provided by Greene County High School Chorus, Union Point Elementary Performance Group and Greene County High School Cheerleaders. Dr. Barbara Pulliam, Greene County’s superintendent of schools, commented during her remarks what a pleasure it was to see students with their families at the event.
Students were able to browse the exhibitor area on Court Street for information and goodies from various community groups and businesses including Boys and Girls Club of Morgan County, City of Greensboro, Community Addiction Recovery, Community Connection of North East Georgia, First Call Pregnancy Center, Georgia Military College-Madison, Grace Fellowship, Greene County Athletic Booster Club, Greene County Chamber of Commerce, Greene County Recreation, H.O.P.E./Atlas, Kingdom Marketplace, St. Joseph’s East Georgia, Stronghold Christian Church, TenderCare Clinic, and Underdue Social Services.
Throughout the afternoon, Back to School care packages were raffled to students. More than 100 grade-appropriate care packages containing writing paper, pens, crayons, rulers and other supplies were distributed to students. These care packages and other supplies were provided by the event sponsors, TenderCare Clinic and St. Joseph’s of East Georgia, along with support from other local groups, individuals and businesses including Julie Davenport, Nancy Dawkins, Dreamcatcher’s Antiques, Grace Fellowship, Annie L. Grant, Genuine Georgia, Greene County Chamber of Commerce, Greensboro Business Association, Hunter Drugs, McCommons Desktop Publishing and Debby Sullivan.
The goal of the Back to School Bash was to create an afternoon of fun and attention for students as they begin their new school year. The event helped to build a sense of community support for students and their families.
The Back to School BASH is organized by the City of Greensboro, Greene County Board of Education, Greene County Family Connection, Greensboro Better Hometown Program, and the Greene County Chamber of Commerce, TenderCare Clinic and St. Joseph’s East Georgia.
