The Lake Oconee Community Church celebration of freedom, which was enjoyed by more than 300 people on the lovely Sunday morning of July 5 past will be aired as a part of Dock 103.9 celebration of Veteran’s Day Wednesday evening, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.

Created by Pastor for Worship and the Arts, Gary W. Arnold, and executed by numerous and diverse people of the church and community, this annual event is not to be missed.

The readings and music from Native American, Hebrew, Hispanic, Korean, and African American traditions; the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, Howard Thurman, and Maya Angelou; the presentation of colors by Greene County High School Junior ROTC Black Guard; the singing of the National Anthem by lake area soprano Rachel Sterrenberg, and the choral contributions of The Reynold’s Chorus under the direction of Donna Brelsford, created a collage representative of the wonderful multiplicity of our community and these United States.

Assisting in the readings were Becky Matheny, pastor of Spiritual Development, Lake Oconee Community Church; Elaine Cinnamon, director of the Mentor Program, Greensboro Elementary School and OPAS Education Outreach Coordinator; Maybe Ortiz, well known photographer and equestrian aficionado; Hanna Drew, Korean broadcast personality and writer who now resides in Eatonton; Christine Ranta, special education teacher, Greensboro Elementary; Avis Williams, pastor of Community Transformation, Lake Oconee Community Church; and Haley and Lindsey Vincent, grandchildren of Mary and Gene Elzy, Lake Oconee residents.

The prayer for our nation and remembrance of those who have served our military was given by Bradley Hocevar, Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army. Piano accompaniment and other vocal presentations were provided by Amy Reber and Gary Arnold, and percussion by Ernest Rogers.

Honor veterans with 60 minutes of your time this Veteran’s Day evening. And, be sure to attend the second annual Celebration of Freedom, Sunday, July 4, 2010, 9:30 a.m. at the Plantation Pointe Pavilion.

Everyone in the community is invited to all events sponsored by Lake Oconee Community Church.
