Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) physician Dr. Victoria Afshani was recently named among Metro Atlanta’s Top Doctors in the third edition of Consumers’ Checkbook’s Consumers’ Guide to Top Doctors, one of the top medical reference guides in the country. Dr. Afshani practices at the GCS Lake Oconee office in Greensboro, 1000 Cowles Clinic Way, Magnolia Building, (706) 454-0159).

GCS is the largest private medical oncology/hematology practice in the Southeast.

“Our doctors take pride in giving patients great care,” said Dr. Bruce Feinberg, president and CEO of GCS. “It’s fulfilling to know that our fellow physicians recognize this.”

There were a total of 28 oncologists/hematologists listed for Georgia, including the nine from GCS. The next closest practice had six physicians listed.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by my peers as a Top Doctor,” said Dr. Afshani.

In addition to Drs. Feinberg and Afshani, GCS physicians Drs. Janice Galleshaw, Pradeep Jolly, Bancroft Lesesne, Melvin Moore, Jayanthi Srinivasiah, Stephen Szabo, and Gena Volas-Redd were selected.

Consumers’ Checkbook surveyed roughly 340,000 physicians nationwide in more than 50 of the largest Metropolitan Statistical Areas, including in Metro Atlanta (defined as Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties). All active, office-based doctors on the American Medical Association (AMA) mailing list were included in the survey. The AMA list is a comprehensive list, which includes both AMA members and doctors who are not AMA members.

Each doctor surveyed was asked to choose one or two specialists, in each of 35 different specialty fields, he or she would consider most desirable for care of a loved one.

The list of doctors contains the names of physicians who were mentioned multiple times by other physicians in their communities.

Georgia Cancer Specialists is the largest private medical oncology/hematology practice in the Southeast and a leader in advanced cancer treatment and research. The practice offers community-based medical oncology and hematology services and is the first private oncology practice to also provide a full range of support services for patients in Georgia, including nutritional counseling, pain management, wellness counseling, and home health

coordination.
