Since the attractiveness of outdoor landscaping suffers during the cold season, why not focus on making the inside of your home or business beautiful with plants. There are many great houseplants available to liven up your indoor areas. Whether the area has low light or bright sunlight, there are plants available that will thrive in these conditions. Houseplants can be flowering, have different leaf colors, upright or hanging growth habits, or be tall or low growing. Some great low light plants are Corn Plant, Janet Craig Dracaena, Aglonemea, Spathaphilum, and Philodendron. Spathaphilum has a white bloom. There are many varieties of Philodendron available. Taller plants help soften corners and accent them. Some good choices for corner plants include Corn Plant, Palms, Shefflera, Ficus Trees, Rubber Plants, and Dracaena Marginata. Bright light areas are great places for Palms, Ficus trees, Succulents and Cactus.
You may want to liven up the indoors with blooming plants. Try using Spathaphilum, Orchids, African Violets, Kalanchoa or Bromeliads. For color, consider using plants with different leaf colors such as Crotons, which are available in a variety of colors. Aglonemea, Pathos, several varieties of Dracaena and Deffenbachia are also good choices of plants with unique leaf colors. Some areas of your house such as entries and nooks may need hanging baskets to bring a graceful feeling to them. Pathos, Philodendron, Ivy, Hoya and Swedish Ivy are good choices for hanging baskets.
The best way to get an idea of what type houseplant to use in your home or business is to come by the garden center and browse the large assortment of houseplants available. Try placing different plants together to find a combination that looks best to you.
