Greene County Library staff takes care of readers

“Hey, I saw that they were offering free tax preparation at the library. That is interesting. I wonder how that place operates?”
Good question! A 15-year veteran, Jackie Broderick, manages the Greene County Library. She is responsible for the operations and service at the Greene County Library. Noreen, the only other full-time employee, shares the responsibility of the library and together they coordinate 4 part-time employees. Cassandra, Cornelia, Faye, Lillie, and Noreen with a combined 13-and-a-half years experience are able to deal with virtually any challenge presented by patron, building, or service.
These are the people responsible for the day-to-day efficiency of the library. They can be found checking books in and out, putting books on hold; pulling books for holds at 285 PINES libraries throughout the state of Georgia including the seven other libraries in the Uncle Remus System; calling patrons when the books arrive, preparing books for the couriers, keeping the shelves neat and the books correctly shelved, helping patrons find the materials needed whether on shelf or on the internet, searching for information on the computer; copying and faxing items. They also participate in preparing library publicity and promotions such as displays, facilitating programming such as the Vacation Reading Program, and maintaining a ‘reading’ knowledge’ of the materials they offer to the public—an interactive reader service. Angela Smith keeps the whole operation clean, neat, and ready for business as our contracted cleaning service provider.
All together our staff handles an average of 9,600 patron visits a month. These folks are good but they couldn’t do it all without the assistance of Friends of the Library who currently volunteer to help in the areas of the Vacation Reading Program, purchasing library materials and special equipment, and maintaining the library.
As a team, these folks keep the library open each weekday and on the weekends as well. Our hours are: M, W, Th, F: 10-6; Tu:10–8; Sat 10-2 and Sun 2-5. So now you know how it runs and who makes up the team of fellow citizens who are ready to serve you on a daily basis, stop in and see us, stay a while, and enjoy YOUR facility.
Special advice from our ‘reading rabbit’. He tells us that much more can be learned about your library at uncleremus.org/greene.html
