Open House benefits Humane Society

Linda Pack (right), chairman of the Oconee Regional Humane Society, accepts a check from Lake Oconee Community Church representative Linda Maples. The funds were part of more than $6,500 in proceeds from the church’s first Holiday House fundraiser during November 2009. Other organizations receiving these extra funds during January include Habitat for Humanity (Greene and Putnam counties); Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy (Greene and Putnam); Reynolds Veterans Association; Greene County Food Bank; Putnam Community (Food) Resources, Inc.; and Second Harvest. LOCC’s Holiday House was a retail store that sold Christmas decorations and gift items in the lake community daily between November 1 – 25. The church project began in October when volunteers received donations of “gently used” decorations and gift items from hundreds of households all over the community. Some items were updated and many re-worked into wreaths or table decorations. New merchandise was purchased as well to supplement the donated stock. And Santa stopped by the store one Sunday afternoon to talk and take pictures with area children. Please remember: As you put away your decorations at the close of this holiday season, keep the 2010 Holiday House in mind. Set aside any unwanted items and mark your calendars for our October collection drive. Lake Oconee Community Church is a multi-denominational Christian church that worships each Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at the Reynolds Lake Club and at 10:30 a.m. at the Lake Welcome Center on Highway 44.
