Harbor Club ladies welcome local authors

Historic Washington Grass Inn was the setting for the Harbor Club Ladies League’s April meeting where the group welcomed authors Corey Crouse and Susan Erlandson — two of the four authors of locally inspired “Do Tell! Tales Told on Southern Porches”. In keeping with the program theme, “Books & Reading,” everyone was asked to bring a book to exchange.
Corey described “Do Tell!” as a collection of short stories and photographs from Greene County’s history — taking the reader from frontier days into modern times. She and Susan recounted several fascinating stories and displayed a few pictures — thus adding visual interest to their tales. A book signing was held at the close of the meeting.
Prior to the program the ladies were served a delightful luncheon in the Inn’s Victorian style dining rooms (where the gourmet soups were served in charming antique cups and saucers). Table centerpieces contained a series of books topped by pots of colorful spring flowers.
Terri Ligon of the Activities Committee reported that all is ready for the three-day visit to St. Simon’s Island this month. A trip to the Olive Forge Herb Garden is planned for June.
Brenda Hill announced that a Derby Day theme would highlight the May meeting being held in the home of Lois Miller. There will be a contest to choose the prettiest, funniest and most original hats.
Camille Mancuso of the Elections Committee submitted the nominations for next year’s officers: Joyce Johnson and Patty Monteleone — Co-Presidents, Diane Gburek and Terri Ligon — Co-Vice-Presidents, Dottie Suggs — Secretary and Bea McCormick — Treasurer. All nominations were approved and officers will be sworn in at the May meeting.
Door prizes given by the authors and the program committee were awarded — the meeting then concluded with the book exchange.
