LOPC women share in retreat

Women at Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church and their guests participated in a women’s retreat last weekend, May 7 and 8. A seminar titled, “Sitting at the Feet of Jesus: Lessons learned from the Life of Mary of Bethany” was presented by Lynne Rienstra, a well-known Christian speaker.
She began by asking the women, “Are you running or sitting?” An animated and articulate mother, career woman and pastor’s wife, she kept her audience’s attention through her descriptions of various modern women and through donning accessories that illustrated the various personalities.
During the evening and following day, she talked about women having the right priorities in their lives. Repeatedly she asked the women, “Does your life reflect Mary or her sister Martha of the Bible?” (Martha was busy being the perfect hostess and her sister Mary sat at Jesus’ feet focusing her attention on the guest in their home.)
“As you examine your life, what place does the care of your own soul take?” “Are you so busy caring and doing for others that you neglect yourself?” “What are the many things worrying and upsetting you?” “Where can you find a place of safety? Quiet? Grace? Refreshment? A place of being fully known and fully loved?”
She encouraged the women to find the time to “sit at the feet of Jesus and get to know Him” — and to take time from the hustle and activities of busy days to find peace and serenity within through personal time and prayer.
In addition to a thought provoking presentation, the women enjoyed Christian fellowship and wonderful food.
The Women In the Church (WIC) Ministry planned and coordinated the seminar.
Jane Prewett is president of the group and Susan Porter hosted the speaker at her home for the seminar.
