We are entering one of the prime blooming times for plants. Shrubs, perennials and annuals all have varieties that produce blooms. Hydrangeas are one of the most popular blooming shrubs and they come in different shades of pink, blue, white and red.

The Endless Summer Hydrangea is a favorite among hydrangea lovers because it blooms throughout the summer. For best results, remove the spent blooms to encourage new flower growth. The original Endless Summer Hydrangea will be either blue or pink depending on soil acidity. Acidic soil will produce a blue flower while alkaline soil will produce a pink flower. If you want to be sure of a blue bloom, add aluminum sulfate to the soil, for pink flowers add lime. This practice goes a long way with other hydrangea varieties as well.

Blushing Bride is another variety of Endless Summer Hydrangea that has white flowers with a pink accent. Twist and Shout is a pink variety that has flatter bloom cluster, which is very beautiful. There are many other hydrangea varieties such as Nikko Blue, Oak Leaf, Big Daddy, Dooley, Mystic and Annebelle.

Most hydrangeas grow well in semi-shade areas, if you have more sun than shade try using Limelight Hydrangea, which has white blooms with green highlights. Hydrangeas are also available in a tree-form shape.

Hydrangeas will add great accent to any landscape. Visit the garden center to see all the beautiful varieties available. We are sure you will want to find a place for them in your garden.

Happy Gardening.
