The outstanding generosity of the members of the Lake Oconee Community Church was evident with the presentation recently of over 610 pounds of food and checks from church members for $1,800 to the Greene County Food Pantry.  

Ann Bennett, Alla Campbell and Avis Williams, a pastor at the church, presented the check to Angel Weaver, Director of the Greene County Food Pantry.

Avis Williams is a graduate of Chandler School of Theology, Emory University and concentrates her ministries with the Lake Oconee Community Church through outreach programs serving the Greene and Putnam County areas.  The Lake Oconee Community Church holds services on Sundays at 8:30 a.m. at the Reynolds Plantation Pavilion (at the Lake Club during winter) and at 10:30 at the Lake Welcome Center.

The Lake Oconee Community Church is another example of the residents of Greene and Putnam Counties serving the needs of those less fortunate. The need for family support is increasing as the year goes on. This summer is a difficult time due to vacations, etc.

The Food Pantry’s committee of Chris Barrett, June Cook and Kathee Gabriel, have been scheduling churches and local organizations every month to hold food drives.

The money that is raised during these drives is used to buy needed items from the Feeding America Food Bank Network at very low costs Food products that are donated during the food drives is used to fill the gaps, when items are not available to be purchased.

The Greene County Food Pantry, located at the Morning Side Apartment Complex. MLK Jr. Dr. in Greensboro serves all of Greene County and is open on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday serving the families of Greene County that qualify for assistance.
