Summer heat can bring on an array of problems in your landscape. Summer showers, humid weather and the increase in temperature can cause fungus in plants and lawns, increase insect populations and weed growth. Fortunately, there are products that can help these situations.

Fungus problems increase during the summer season, but there are many good fungicides available to treat infected areas. For lawns both granular and spray fungicides work great. Granular fungicides are broadcast using a spreader, which makes application quick and easy. Sprays can be purchased premixed in an applicator that is connected to your garden hose and sprayed on. You can also purchase concentrated fungicide liquid that you mix with water in an applicator or sprayer. Fungicides are also available for use on different landscape plants in pre-mix, concentrated liquid and granular forms.

Insects are a wide spread problem during the growing season. They attack plants and lawns. Systemic insecticides are absorbed into the plant. When the insect attacks the treated plants, it will ingest the insecticide and die. Contact insecticides kill insects when sprayed directly on them. For lawns, there are spray and granular insecticides available to eliminate grubs, armyworms and many other insects.     

Weeds are another landscape problem during the summer months. Crabgrass, clover, and plantains are just a few of the many problem weeds that need to be addressed with applications of weed killer. There are many good weed killers available, some for grassy weeds, some for broadleaf weeds and some for both types of weeds. Weed killers are also available in granular or granular with fertilizer, pre-mixed that connects to the garden hose or concentrated liquid forms.
