- Emma McGahan supports the humane society through her birthday.
Emma McGahan is a typical seven year old who looks forward to her birthday and having a party with her friends. This year, the second grader at Trinity School in Atlanta, decided to have something different. She invited 15 of her friends and they were asked, not to bring her a present, but to bring a gift for the Oconee Regional Humane Society – for the rescued animals. All her friends responded enthusiastically with pet food, pet snacks and many toys for the abandoned cats and dogs that the Humane Society rescues.
Emma and her sister, 9 year old Sophie, along with her parents and their 2 hamsters visit the lake quite often. Asked why she chose ORHS, Emma said “I heard that the cats and dogs that are up for adoption are sad because they have no permanent home and I wanted to do something to make them happy.”
Mission accomplished Emma and a big thank you for your generosity and big heart from the Humane Society and all the dogs and cats.
The Oconee Regional Humane Society is a non-profit organization relying solely on the generosity of others, like Emma. Until we are able to build our foster facility, all of the pets rescued are fostered in homes where they are loved and cared for until their forever home is found. Adoptions are held every Saturday at Pet Supplies Plus, 191 Alps Rd. in Athens from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
