Napoleon Bonaparte once said, “Victory belongs to the most persevering.”
Madison Odum, 13, knows a lot about victory and perseverance. She and her Reynolds Rapids team traveled to Walton County for the district meet with other teams as a qualifier for the state meet in Tifton, Ga. later this month. She competed against other 13 and 14 year old girls in the 50 Yard Breaststroke. During her swim, her goggles came off and she had to finish the race without them. Even under the pressure of a district meet, Madison persevered. She might have come in third place in the event, but it still puts her in the race for the state meet. She also came back later that day to help her team win first place in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. “It’s not always about coming in first place, but about doing you’re best,” shared her Coach Angel Myers Sims, who Madison has been swimming with since she was 6.
