The Mission Committee of the Walker United Methodist Church recently held a church wide food drive for the Greene County Food Pantry and collected 175 pounds of food and over $1100 in cash donations. Members of the committee, Evelyn Farmer, Jean McCurdy, Betty Stewart, Kay Guthrie, Pastor John Pike and not pictured – Jean Queen and Ann Williams, worked hard and said they had an enthusiastic turnout from church members.
The Greene County Food Pantry is truly grateful for their generous donation of food and cash. This wonderful church is located on Walker Church Road in Greensboro. It couldn’t have come at a better time for usually the summer months are a bit slow for donations. Through the efforts of churches, such as the Walker United Methodist Church, and many organizations and individuals, the Food Pantry is able to meet the needs of the most needy in these difficult economic times.
The money that is donated is spent on much needed items from the Feeding America Food Bank Network at very low costs (an example – an 18 oz. jar of peanut butter would cost 21 cents).
The Greene County Food Pantry, a non-profit organization, is located in the Morningside Apartment complex on Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. in downtown Greensboro. They are open on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday serving all of the Greene County residents that qualify for assistance. To make a monetary or food donation, please call 706-453-1380. Monetary donations can be mailed to Greene County Food Pantry, P.O. Box 697, Greensboro, GA 30642.
