Home Depot supports Greene County Food Pantry

The Greene County Food Pantry is dedicated to serving all Greene County residents that are in need of assistance. It is staffed mainly by volunteers who work tirelessly at various tasks. Recently the Food Pantry was in need of help to unload a truck of 15,000 pounds of food delivered by the Feeding America Food Bank Network.
The prayers were answered when the employees from the local Home Depot stepped up. Steven Frederick, the store manager, assistant store managers Courtney Baker and Mike Doran, department heads Craig Allen, Tony Smith, Kenny Sims and special services supervisor Amanda Burns arrived at the Food Pantry in downtown Greensboro with their sleeves rolled up, ready to work. Mr. Frederick, the Store Manager, said “no thanks necessary — it is just what we do.” Unloading and stacking the food is not an easy job but the reward is seeing the shelves stocked for those in need.
Home Depot is not only the world’s largest “home improvement” retailer but is close to being the fourth largest “retailer” in the world. Home Depot and its employees are a “Value Based Company.” Its employees are challenged to certain values such as, “Respect for all People, Taking Care of our People and Giving Back.” This is all a part of what is locally called “Team Depot.”
Every store has a team captain that organizes charity work each month. The team goes into the surrounding area and forms trusting relationships within the community. On Tuesday, Sept 7, “Team Depot” was helping the Greene County Food Pantry. The Board and volunteers of the GCFP extend their sincere thank you to the employees of Home Depot, for giving their off time to help the community.
The GCFP receives a delivery once or twice a month with the average order containing 600-800 cases of food. This, along with the generous donation from churches and other organizations, fill the shelves of the Food Pantry to help over 400 families a month.
The GCFP is located in the Morningside Apartment Complex, MLK Jr. Drive in Greensboro. It is open on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday serving Greene County families that qualify for assistance. To make a monetary or food donation, call (706) 453-1380. The Greene County Food Pantry is a nonprofit organization and all donations are tax deductible.
