In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the lake area community is invited to a Lunch & Learn program at Spotlight Theaters in Greensboro on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at noon.

Dr. Ramona Warren of Pathways to Healing and Dr. Donna Eaton of Oconee Wellness will lead a roundtable discussion on issues pertaining to breast cancer. The discussion will focus primarily on cancer and the mind-body connection. Topics to be addressed will include preventative steps to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer, the role exercise can play in managing the disease, and tips for handling the myriad of emotions that coincide with a cancer diagnosis.

“This isn’t designed to be a lecture,” says Dr. Warren. “We want to address the issues that are on people’s minds, so we’ll be using a question and answer format to drive the discussion.”

The program is free of charge. Light lunch selections will be available for purchase. Those interested in attending should call Pathways to Healing at 706-454-2040, as space is limited.

Dr. Ramona Warren has over 26 years experience in holistic chiropractic care. She opened Pathways to Healing in Greensboro in 2005. The “Rotary Poker Paddle” contestants will launch kayaks (or other non-motorized boats) from the Reynolds Plantation Pavilion at 5:00 pm. The activity requires paddling to a series of neighboring docks to pick up a sealed envelope containing a playing card. Once all paddlers have retrieved seven envelopes containing the cards and returned to the Pavilion area, the paddler with the best poker hand will be crowned the winner and receive a gift certificate for a one night stay at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation and dinner for two at one of The Ritz-Carlton Lodge restaurants.

After the contest, paddlers and guests will have an opportunity to enjoy a cook-out featuring burgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings and sides. Hamburger meals will cost $5; hotdog meals will cost $4.

As part of the event, a raffle will be held and the winner will receive a new Pelican kayak. Raffle tickets are for sale for $5 each or 5 tickets for $20. Event sponsorships are still available. Participants needing to rent a kayak may request a rental through the Rotary Club.
