Myriad of Lake Oconee events set for weekend

An array of community events are scheduled this weekend in Putnam County and Lake Oconee, as fall officially gets under way, that will help locals ring in the season and give back to a good cause.

The first event, which is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 22 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., will take place at Cuscowilla’s Waterside Restaurant in celebration of October.

The event, which is Cuscowilla’s own version of Oktoberfest, will feature German-inspired foods that are sure to help residents savor the tastes of fall.

The event will feature foods such as Bratwurst, Schnitzel and Spaetzle, and an array of German beers and beverages.

On Saturday, Oct. 23, beginning at 9 a.m., Putnam County residents will have the opportunity to fight off the chance of flu with the annual Putnam General Hospital Annual Flu Drive, which will be held in the front parking lot of the hospital.

Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, another event is taking place that will help ring in the season as Mothers Against Crime holds its annual Fall Fling.

The event is being held at Montgomery homes from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and all kids are invited to enjoy the cookout and receive school supplies. Please call (706) 483-5332 for more information.

Additionally, if you’re looking for another festive way to enjoy the sights and sounds of fall, be sure to check out this weekend’s tour of homes, which will take place on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

“The Many Faces of Reynolds: A tour of Exception Homes,” features tours of five distinctive homes and a cruise on scenic Lake Oconee.

Tickets are $25 in advance only and additionally, for $12, interested participants can enjoy lunch on the water at Reynolds Pavilion and enjoy Chef Schmidt’s delicious deli sandwich, soup and salad bar buffet, as well as live music.

Locals hoping to ring in the season of fall with a primer on healthy cooking should enroll in “Pathways to Healing Healthy Cooking Class” which will be held on Monday, Oct. 25 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Taught by Dr. Ramona and Chef Matt Felix, the class will take place at the Reynold’s Landing Clubhouse and will give participants an opportunity to have an enjoyable evening filled with food, cooking tips and entertaining stories.

The first course will feature chicken consommé, followed by a second course featuring pan-roasted trout with Haricot Vert Almandine, Buerre Noisette and a third course of buckwheat crepes with strawberries.

The cost is $35 per person, which includes the class, meal, tax and gratuity.
