One tree stands above others for Christmas

Christmas season is here and its time to put up the Christmas tree. For the longest lasting fresh-cut, Christmas tree choose the Fraser Fir, which is well known for holding its needles throughout the Christmas season. They are available for purchase in heights ranging from six to twelve feet. Fraser Fir has a nice dark green needle and has a very full branchy habit. The branches are strong and can handle the weight of ornaments, lights and garland. To make sure they stay fresh, cut a little off the bottom of the tree before placing it in the tree stand, this will allow the tree to easily, absorb water. Always keep water in the bottom of the tree stand to prevent the tree from drying out and prematurely dropping its needles. Another popular choice is to select flocked trees; these are Fraser Firs that have a snow-like substance sprayed on the tree to look like freshly fallen snow has landed on the branches. Flocked trees need no water and do not shed their needles. These are great for creating an inside winter wonderland effect. Many people will also place a fresh-cut tree outside loaded with lights and ornaments to bring the Christmas feeling to their outdoor areas as well.
Another great idea for Christmas is to give the gift of plants. You can choose from trees, shrubs, perennials or grasses, or you could choose a gift card and let them select an item they would like. A great present to give is a landscape plan that they can follow step by step or perhaps give a container design that would look great in an accent area.

Happy Gardening.
