Only one week left in E-recycling month

Not sure where to take your old computer and electronics? Drop it off at the Greene County Recycle Center off Meadow Crest Road behind The Home Depot, because E-recycling month has one week left.
The month-long drive to collect old electronics is part of a cooperative effort between the Greene County Board of Commissioners and its waste vendor Advanced Disposal. The best part about the event is that it should turn a profit and not be an expense to taxpayers. Advanced Disposal will sell all the collected electronics to a vendor that then takes that material, breaks it down, and sells the raw material to various metal, plastic, and precious metal vendors.
Computer hard drives will not be re-used, and the county is requiring certification from the processing vendor that data will be destroyed.
Local residents and businesses can drop off many types of electronic items, including computers, monitors, printers, office equipment, cell phones, cables, keyboards, mice, speakers, UPS systems, batteries, ink cartridges, and other e-scrap such as game consoles, DVD players, banking equipment, VCRs, speakers and media (DVDs, CDs, tapes, etc.) Even your Christmas lights can be dropped off.
It would be easier to simply list the items that cannot be dropped off, including TVs, light bulbs, and kitchen-related electronics. If you are not sure whether you can drop off an item, call Chris Edwards at (706) 453-7716 for more information.
The drop-off location will only be at the Greene County Recycle Center. From Hwy 44, take Meadow Crest Road (behind The Home Depot) for a couple miles until you see the Recycle Center on your left. Items can be dropped off from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Large items do not have to packaged or separated into a box. The on-site attendant will help people put items in the proper area. However, cables, batteries, and ink cartridges should be separated and put in individual containers or boxes, if possible.
