Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam inducts new members

The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties is pleased to announce the induction of four new members to their club.  Jay Dell, Carlyle Scales, Marsha Souders, and Heather Dodson Thrift were officially welcomed to the club by Rotary Club President Tom Cornelia at a recent weekly meeting.

Jay Dell was born in Bremerhaven, Germany and being part of a military family, grew up all around the U.S.  He attended high school in Alexandria, Virginia, college at Georgia Tech, and law school at Mercer University. In 2000, Jay moved to Lake Oconee from Macon, GA and has lived and worked in the community ever since.  His law firm, J.V. Dell, PC, is a general practice law firm, specializing in real estate, business, corporate, and wills and probate law.  He is married to Angela and has three children, Garrett (13), Austin (3), and Morgan (1).  Dell states that “I enjoy spending time with family and friends and all sorts of outdoor activities, with golfing and boating as two of my favorites.”

Carlyle Scales grew up in Mobile, AL and moved to the lake area eight years ago.  In 1989, he started a publishing company.  Currently, he is the publisher of three publications focused on providing the best and most current information on Diabetes.  Carlyle is married to Carole and has two children and three grandchildren.  Carlyle shared that he has a passion for helping people with Diabetes.   

Marsha Souders is the owner of Prestige Travel of Dunwoody and Lake Oconee.  She is a former Rotarian (2000 – 2010) in the North Atlanta Club.  She was club president from 2005-2006, during which time her club won “Best Club” in Rotary District 6900.  In 2006, Marsha had the honor of winning the Sheffield Award for Leadership at Rotary’s District Conference.  She is married to Bob Souders and has two sons, Brad Mallet and Andrew Mallet.  She is the grandmother of Alex (10), Ryder (3), and Jacob (1 _).  Marsha is a member of OPAS and enjoys traveling to her favorite countries, Italy, France and Australia.

Heather Dodson Thrift was born and raised in Eatonton and graduated from Gatewood in 2006 and GCSU in 2010 with a Bachelors of Science in Community Health and Health Promotion. She is currently working on a Masters degree in Public Health.  She is the public relations and marketing director for Putnam General Hospital.  Thrift was a 2005 Rotary Student of the Month and 2006 Rotary Student of the Year.  She shared that she is “excited to be welcomed into the Rotary family and cannot wait to make new friendships and volunteer my time to make our communities a better place.”
