Rock Eagle 4-H Center will welcome 6- to 11-year-olds within the community to come and explore the outdoors during spring break. Instead of having children cooped up indoors, Camp EcoAdventure aims to expose children to the great outdoors by allowing them to interact with others and learn valuable material.

Rock Eagle will offer Survival Kids Day Monday, April 4. During the program, campers will test their survival skills by learning how to use a compass, build a shelter and make a fire. Knowledgeable camp counselors will also teach campers how make their own rope out of plant materials and give instruction on canoeing.

Matt Hammons, program coordinator for the Environmental Education program, has enjoyed putting programs together for youth. The program has been offered for three years.

“I think it is a great way to make new friends. Rock Eagle has a lot to offer. This is a great way for the kids to meet our animals and check out the museum. Rock Eagle is typically not open to the public, except when we have our day camps that have been extended to the community,” Hammons said.

Typically around 15 to 20 children attend the alternative spring break camp. With so much to learn and explore, the camp offers a little something for everyone.

Survival Kids Day is part of a week-long series of programs at Rock Eagle during Camp EcoAdventure. Camp EcoAdventure is an environmental education day camp that focuses on the amazing attributes of the outdoors. Each day of the week during Camp EcoAdventure focuses on a different aspect of life outdoors and will showcase exciting activities for campers to enjoy and may even inspire a lifelong love of a new sport or activity. The cost for one day of camp is $40, or if a camper would like to try every part of the activities, the cost is $190 for the entire week. Student drop-off is at 8 a.m. and pick up starts at 4:30 p.m. Extended hours are available for an additional cost.
