Adding color to your landscape will add interest, whether it is color in trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, or ground cover. Color can be used almost anywhere in your yard. Try to decide where you want to add color and what color you want. Many types of plants can be used to bring color to your landscape.     

There are many great trees to use to add color. Coral Bark Japanese Maple has red branches to give you great color during the winter months. There are many varieties of red leaf Japanese Maples all with different leaf shape and growth habits to give added interest. You should also consider fall color.

Different varieties of trees will have colorful leaves in the fall. Some trees, such as River Birch, have interesting peeling, white bark. There is also variety of Birch with a weeping growth habit.

There are also great shrubs such as Camellias, Sasanqua, and Winter Jasmine, all of which will give wonderful winter color. There are azaleas, Knockout Roses, Viburnum, Abelia, tea olive, Ligustrum, Rhododendron, Butterfly Bush, gardenia, forsythia, Lorapetalum, and Otto Luyken Laurel that are great for adding color during the growing season.

For spring annuals there are so many to choose from for adding color. A wide variety of choices will be available soon. Perennials and herbs have just arrived and both are great plant choices for color since they come back year after year delivering colorful blooms. There are many varieties available both for shade and sun conditions.

Color can make a huge impact in your landscaping; look for areas in your yard that can benefit from color plants this spring.
