More than 40 people attended the Sunday, Feb. 27 Greene County Habitat for Humanity spring groundbreaking ceremony in New Horizons of Ludwig Place Subdivision in Greensboro.

The subdivision has nine completed houses and will be home to 15 families once completed in 2012.

Habitat holds an open application process each year to find hardworking families living in substandard conditions that desire a hand up. They recently welcomed six new families to the program and plan to hold the next application workshop this fall.

Greene County Habitat for Humanity, has been in operation for 15 years and are a non-denominational Christian Ministry working in partnership with the community and future homeowners to provide decent, affordable, and safe housing for those in need.

The organization believes that not only is family strength supported and improved by the quality of living conditions, but the community benefits as well.

The first Habitat house in Greene County was built in 1997. With continued growing support of the community, through both monetary contributions and volunteer services, a total of seven homes were built by yearend 2002.

Habitat has now built 30 houses and is excited to celebrate 15 years as they break ground on houses 31 and 32. One of this spring’s prospective homeowners is Jill and Chris Johnson.

Jill has worked for Subway for over five years and Chris helps out at Grand Oaks.
