Greene County Food Pantry announces expanded hours

The Greene County Food Pantry announced that they will expand their hours starting April 11. They will be open Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The volunteers for the food pantry hope that these expanded hours will allow more flexibility for those in need, which is so crucial in these hard economic times.

GCF Pantry also announced that during the week of April 4 – 8, they will be closed for renovations. The renovations include painting, new restroom facility and upgraded energy saving windows. The renovations will be paid and completed by our landlord, The Greensboro Housing Authority, and the Food Pantry expresses a special thanks for these updates and improvements.

In 2010, The Greene County Food Pantry served over 5,500 families — nearly 15,000 individuals — with each family receiving more than 30 pounds of food per month. As the new year has started, a request has gone out to groups, churches, businesses, individuals and other organizations to hold food drives and or make monetary donations to help meet the needs of those served by the Food Pantry. As unemployment in Greene County remains high, there is a growing number of families in need of help.

The Greene County Food Pantry, a non-profit organization, is located in the Morningside Apartment complex on Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. in downtown Greensboro. The pantry serves all Greene County residents that qualify for assistance. Monetary donations can be mailed to Greene County Food Pantry, P.O. Box 697, Greensboro, GA 30642.
