Circle of Love stands ready for springtime

Greene County Master Gardeners teamed with the Greene County Garden Club and celebrated the beginning of Spring with a seasonal sprucing of the Circle of Love gardens. The group trimmed shrubs and ornamental grasses, removed the early weeds and all unplanned vegetation that migrated to the gardens during the winter months.
The Circle of Love women’s shelter is located in Greene County but serves the needs of women and children in a five county area. The low maintenance gardens are designed to provide year round blooming color and a soothing respite for the Circle of Love clients. The Circle of Love has been an eight-year project for both garden organizations. Area nurseries, landscape companies and businesses generously donated all plants, shrubs and the lawn. Greene County Master Gardener Willis Johnson has done original garden design and much of the fundraising.
Master Gardeners will be at Southland Jubilee. Drop by the Greene County Master Gardeners booth at Southland Jubilee on Saturday, April 16, in downtown Greensboro. Local members will be available to answer questions about plant and shrub problems, soil preparation and ideas on what to grow in your pots, veggie or flower gardens. Plus there will be vegetable seedlings available for purchase.
The Master Gardener Program is a volunteer training program offered through county offices of the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension. Through this program, individuals are trained and certified in horticulture and related areas. The Master Gardener program has been operating in Georgia since 1979.
