Free landscape series offers tips for lush lawns

Dreaming of summertime relaxing in a back yard with a lush green lawn? The Lunchbag Landscape Series presentation Green Acres Livin’, Tuesday, April 26, offers advice on lawns by University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service expert, Dr. Clint Waltz. The second of a six-part lecture series, the program begins at 11:30 am thru 1 pm. at the Greene County Cooperative Extension Service building, 1180 Weldon Smith Drive in Greensboro.
Dr. Waltz will touch on several areas essential for maintaining a beautiful and healthy lawn in the Piedmont area of Georgia. His discussion will include selecting the correct grass, lawn care and maintenance, weed control, and disease and insect problems. He will also offer tips and ideas for renovation and improvement of existing lawns.
Dr. Clint Waltz joined the University of Georgia turfgrass team in 2001. His work at the Georgia Experiment Station in Griffen centers on turfgrass management. Dr. Waltz works with the golf course industry, serving on the Georgia Golf Course Superintendents Association education committee. He also advises the Georgia Turfgrass Association and the Georgia Sod Producers group. Dr. Waltz received his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Clemson University.
The Lunchbag Landscape Series is a free lecture series, open to the public, presented by the Greene County Master Gardeners and Greene County Cooperative Extension Service. This summer’s programs bring UGA horticulture experts to the area to offer advice on gardening and landscape. Future lectures will discuss Xeriscaping, Organic Gardening, Composting and Nuisance Wildlife Management. Participants can bring a lunch or buy lunch at the lecture.
