LOPC marks royal tea

Ladies donned hats and gloves to enjoy a Royal Wedding Tea at Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 30. Cucumber sandwiches were only one of many traditional finger foods served with hot tea steeping in lovely silver pots.

Inspired by some of hats seen at the United Kingdom Royal Wedding on Friday, April 29, guests wore colorful chapeaus tied with ribbons and bows. Not to be outdone by Kate Middleton, one woman wore the sparkling tiara from her own wedding many years ago.

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect! A white carpet went from the curb to the front door of Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church to welcome the women. On each side of the walkway were pots of lovely hydrangeas and ferns.

Tables were decorated with elegant, fine china and in the center of each table was a silver tea service. Many of the women loaned their own bridal gowns to be displayed for the day. Also, there were many pictures of the women as brides themselves back in their younger days.

An enormous floral arrangement highlighted the food table.  But everyone kept going over to a table with a picturesque wedding cake that looked too good to cut! It was a real edible cake made by Mrs. June Coker who retired as a professional; wedding cake baker/decorator many years ago. Obviously, she had not lost her skills and special touch! The cake was beautiful and tasted delicious!

Mrs. Jane Prewett, president of the Women in the Church (WIC) of LOPC, welcomed everyone. Mrs. Emma Anderson gave the blessing for the food, and following lunch,  Mrs. Sandy Manwaring was the special speaker who told her life’s story. She shared how God had worked in her life and she told of His many blessings. Following her speech,  Mrs. Manwaring gave the closing prayer. What a fun time it was. Many of the women agreed for a couple of hours,  they felt young again playing dress up and having a bridal tea party.
