Worship on the Water celebrates 10 years

Following the first Easter Sunrise Service outdoors at the Plantation Point Pavilion in 2001, many inquired about the possibility of a weekly worship experience in the same lovely lakeside setting. Thanks to the collaboration of Rob Mitchell, Starr Hodges and Rev. David Key, and the hospitality of Reynolds Plantation, Worship on the Water became a reality Memorial Day Weekend of that same year.

Ten years later, from the Sunday after Easter until Blessing of the Animals in early October, 100+ worshippers from all over the lake community gather at the Pavilion each Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. for the multi-denominational experience. Some walk, some drive, some travel by boat, some bring their own folding chairs, some bring their cups of coffee, all dress casually. During winter months the service temporarily moves indoors to the Lake Club. The staff and members of Lake Oconee Community Church lead the experience and sponsor the event. Lake Oconee Community Church also has a second service each Sunday currently at the Lake Welcome Center at 10:30 a.m.

Worship on the Water has become a cherished place of connection, a unique experience of faith, a hub of community service, and an incredible gathering of resources that continues to enrich the lives and meet the needs of persons all over the Lake Oconee region.

All are invited to “Stop and Celebrate” at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, May 22 at the Plantation Point Pavilion for a 10th Anniversary Celebration, and to enjoy a light brunch that will follow. If you have ever been connected to Worship on the Water, have participated in the many outreach efforts that it has birthed, or simply wish to see what Worship on the Water is all about, this is the Sunday to be present.

All are welcome. Come experience Church as you know it can be.
