Time for summer’s Vacation Reading
Published 8:00 am Wednesday, May 25, 2011
Summertime is just around the corner and at the Greene County Library that means it’s time for The Vacation Reading Club. This year’s theme, “One World, Many Stories” will encourage the children to read books telling about other countries and cultures.
The program will be limited to kindergarten through 5th grades due to work on the Library expansion and limitations of the Temporary Library. The program begins on June 2 and will run each Thursday afternoon through June 23 from 1 to 2 p.m.
The ever-popular magician and storyteller, David Ginn will open this year’s session followed by Julie Austin who will involve the children in music and storytelling. On June 16 it is “Culture Man to the Rescue” as Barry Stewart Mann shares tales from Nigeria, Ireland, Mexico and China. The summer reading program will come to a close with the childrens’ awards ceremony and pizza party on the 23.
Be sure to register your children now so they can start reading books to count toward prizes. Students in kindergarten through 2nd grade should read (or have read to them) 20 books. Third through 5th graders should read 12 books, and must read at their grade level.
Friends of the Greene County Library wish to thank Farmer’s Banks for their continued support of the summer reading program.
