Fifteen participants from Greene and Putnam counties took part in TenderCare’s “Living Well with Diabetes” class Aug. 11.

The class was taught by TenderCare’s Certified Diabetes Educator, Susie Smith, and Health and Wellness Staff members Pam Luke and Brenda Oulsnam.

Smith shared with the group about her daughter’s diagnosis of diabetes at age 7. Smith’s experience with a family member’s diabetic condition led her to become a Diabetes Educator and today her daughter is a healthy 24-year-old who is managing her diabetes.

Smith also shared the Good M&M’s of Diabetes Education — Meal Plan, Motion (Exercise), and Monitor.  Each participant also received helpful information on meal planning and nutritional tips from TenderCare’s Health Educators.

Putnam County resident Linda

Erwin, a retired school nutritionist of 28 years, attended the class and was very impressed with the amount of information that she received in the three hour class.

“I have been under the care of three different physicians for my diabetes and I found TenderCare’s class to be exceptional,” Erwin stated. “The presenters were so compassionate and professional in the presentation of the material and spent time getting to know each participant as well as answering everyone’s questions. I would highly recommend this program to anyone who is dealing with diabetes or has a family member who is diabetic. “I am also attending TenderCare’s Biggest Loser Class. Our community is very blessed to have a medical facility such as TenderCare that offers complimentary educational classes for its citizens.”
