Master Gardeners to hold plant sale

In addition to sharing their gardening knowledge with the public, the Morgan County Master Gardeners are planning to share some of their most treasured plants on Friday and Saturday, Sep. 23 and 24, at their first annual Plant Sale, held at the County Extension Office on 440  Hancock Street.  The Master Gardeners will also be on site to help answer questions about how to grow the plants or gardening questions in general.

Sale hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and there will be a Holding Area so visitors can pick out plants early and still be able to attend the Heritage Hall Tour of Homes, eat lunch or shop around town.

The Master Gardeners are currently working at Heritage Hall to establish an historically correct medicinal garden, representing plants that would have been used by Dr. Elijah Jones while he practiced medicine in the home.  Signs at the plants and a brochure will help educate the public about the use of the plants during that period.  The other major project for the Master Gardeners is to landscape the grounds around the Extension Office with drought tolerant and deer risistant plants.  Proceeds from the Plant Sale will be used to buy materials for these and other projects.

Included in the sale will be perennials, shrubs, roses, and many other treasures from the gardens around Madison.  There will also be a planting table for children and they will be able to take home their treasure.  Be sure to come early so you won’t miss out on getting some wonderful pass-along plants.
