Eatonton hair salon, Salon Essentials, will donate all proceeds to CURE Childhood Cancer on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Salon Essentials, which opened in January in Harmony Crossing shopping center, is a full-service hair salon that provides a friendly, welcoming atmosphere to all who walk through their doors, and on Oct. 15, customers will have a chance to join the salon in giving back to a worthy cause.

CURE Childhood Cancer is an organization with a mission to defeat childhood cancer and support the patients and families who struggle with the disease.

According to their website, CURE “focuses on improving the care, quality of life and survival rate of children with cancer” through research, education and support. The money CURE raises is used to fund research at Aflac Cancer Center Blood Disorders Service at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University School of Medicine.

Salon Essentials owner and Savannah native, PJ Kinchen, wants her business to be a place where people feel at home and can relax and have an enjoyable experience. Kinchen has been married for 15 years, has three daughters, and believes family always comes first; however, that does not exclude the salon and her passion.

“I do hair because I love to do hair,” said Kinchen. “My clients are my family and I have a close relationship with each one of them.” Kinchen also has a desire to connect with the community and support a worthy cause. “CURE was my life for nine months,” she said. “

My youngest girl had brain cancer. CURE was there for my family and this is a way to give back.”

“I’ve been going to the Salon ever since it opened, but I’ve been going to PJ for 10 years now,” said Salon Essentials patron Lyn Gerber. “She cuts my hair beautifully and I consider her a good friend.”
