Weyerhaeuser Gives fund to Steffen Thomas Museum

Weyerhaeuser’s Real Estate Development Company in Madison recently announced a grant for $2,000 to the Steffen Thomas Museum & Archives, Inc. (DBA the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art). The money will be used to fund a portion of the first year of “Creative Teens Going Green” currently taking place at Morgan County CrossRoads School. The Creative Teens program teaches students about careers in the visual arts though art education classes with an emphasis on protecting the environment.
“Weyerhaeuser is extremely pleased to be able to make this donation to the Creative Teens Program” said Dan Bowling, president for the Company’s real estate operations. “We appreciate the partnership with Steffen Thomas Museum & Archives and the Community in providing this unique learning opportunity for the students at the CrossRoads School.”
Karen Strelecki, Arts Outreach Program Coordinator, thanked Weyerhaeuser Foundation. “On behalf of the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art, I would like to convey our sincere gratitude to the Weyerhaeuser Foundation for this generous donation. The Creative Teens Program will work with these deserving students to introduce them to myriad creative activities, possible future artistic careers, and the importance of protecting the environment by using recycled materials for the in-class art projects.”
The check was presented to Nancy Vaughan, STMA Board President, and Heather Haney, STMA Deputy Director, by Sandy McLendon, the Georgia Project Manager for Weyerhaeuser’s Real Estate Development Company.
Since 1948, the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation has directed more than, $208 million to communities nationwide where Weyerhaeuser employees work, live and play.
Weyerhaeuser has been operating in Georgia since 1966. The Company currently employs an estimated 584 people at locations in Dacula, Duluth, Lyons, Madison, Oglethorpe, and Port Wentworth.
