The Harbor Club Ladies Golf Association sponsored The Pink Ribbon Golf Tournament Oct. 13 to aid The Lydia Project Cancer Center in Augusta.
Committee members: Marie Madsen, Brenda Hill, and Lois Miller planned a nine-hole scramble for the 40 golfers. Instead of awarding 1st, 2nd and 3rd places prizes, three of the10-foursome names were drawn as winners. First honors went to Rebecca Cunningham, Kim Austin, Sheila Connelly and Terry Subacz, coming in second were Ellie Davis, Debbie Burns, Jane Kokoska and Theresa Morris. Diane Mahan, Patty Monteleone, Lois Miller and Candi Russell took third place.
Actual first place winners were Diane Roberts, Patricia Balduff, Janel McCullers, Gail Peacock, with Diane Roberts and Patty Monteleone closest to the pin.
Raffle tickets were sold for a lovely handmade quilt donated by Kay Dejno of Harbor Club along with nine gift baskets (two donated by Classic Wines). Donations and the raffles netted a tidy sum of $2,625.00 for the Cancer Center.
Nine cancer survivors were in attendance and received mini birthday cakes with candles celebrating their victory over cancer. After the luncheon the ladies gathered the pink balloons decorating the ceiling and took them out to the patio where Marie Madsen led them in a prayer for the loved ones they had lost to cancer.
The balloons were then released to into the afternoon sky in remembrance of those loved ones.
